the reader's digest version

In rough chronological order, here's a list of "firsts" we've experienced in the Beazer home since the last post:
  • First big econ qualifying exam.
  • Started teaching my first course at OSU: Post-Soviet Politics.
  • First time I've had my bike stolen -- and first insurance denial to cover it.
  • First failed test -- i.e. the econ qualifier.
  • First time to see B's parents perform with the choir in Ohio.
  • First visit to Ohio from my sis and her husband.
  • First time to see the fancy pitch-side box seats for the Columbus Crew game (we won tickets when we bought our recliner).
  • First trip to Cincinnati and our first taste of Cincinnati chili.
  • First baseball cap I've purchased in a decade.
  • First time a committee member has said that they like my latest dissertation proposal.
  • B's first visits to the chiropractor to get her spine cracked several times a week.
  • After about six months, I finally won my adviser in a game of racquetball.
  • Grilled our first chuck steak.
  • Potty-training and the first pair of undies for our proud little girl.
I'm sure that there's a lot more that should be included to this list, but I'm supposed to be studying right now. I'll end it here and see if B comes up anything else.

Can you believe it? Despite your best efforts to help us, shall we say, produce "evidence" of my ownership of said stolen bike, we got turned down. The claims guy mentioned some lame excuse about the bike's replacement cost being way under our deductible. Whatever, insurance guy. Mere technicality, if you ask me.
